Pakatan Announces Seat Allocations for Sarawak Polls

KUALA LUMPUR, 28 MARCH, 2011: Pakatan Rakyat leadership has decided that PAS will compete at five seats in the Sarawak State Election while DAP will compete in 15 seats according to the Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

“The PR leadership meeting has decided that PAS will compete in five seats and DAP in 15 seats and the rest is PKR,” said Anwar.

“Currently the meeting between PKR representative and SNAP representative to discuss about the allocation of the seats are still running,” he added.

According to Anwar, it is up to the parties to select their respective candidates to represent them in the election. He also added that the names of all candidates will be announced in Kuching.

“We will announce the names of candidates in Kuching. There is no need for us to announce the names here as we get all the input from the state DAP, PAS and PKR,” said Anwar.

“The position is for PR, with PR against PBB, Umno and BN, that we will not compromise. So far negation has taken place on that premise,” he added.

There are 71 state seats in Sarawak.

Meanwhile, in the same press conference, DAP advisor Lim Kit Siang scoffed at Tun Daim Zainuddin’s call for a graft-free government today, pointing to allegations of cronyism when he was twice finance minister under former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

According to Kit Siang, Daim should be the last person to speak about corruption.

“Daim should seek a clarification from Dr Mahathir, who had written about “swirling rumors over his integrity which resulted in him being dropped from Cabinet”,” said the Ipoh Timur MP.
